The convent of the Holy Trinity is located near the Selva fraction in the municipality of Santa Fiora (province di Grosseto) at the slopes of Mount Calvo. The church, also known as convent della Selva, is located at a height of 634 m s.l.m isolated and immersed in the silence of the woods.
The primitive church, named after the Holy Trinity, was built in the 11th century and later beside a shrine. In 1400 the domination of the area passed from the Aldobrandeschi family to the Sforza family, through the marriage between Bosio and the last descendant of the alleged family, such Cecilia. From this union the first born of the couple: Conte Guido II.
A legend says that near the Selva, there was a scary beast that devoured cows, sheep and other animals and if he was not enough, he attacked and killed even the men who were passing by his den.
Guido Sforza therefore, decided to go into the woods to search and defeat the Snake Number (Lucifer's Snake). To attract him to if he used his shield as a mirror so that the dragon thought there was a similar one of him and when he approached the count killed him with a long spear. He shook the head of the dragon and handed it over to the brothers because they showed the farmers the death of the dragon.
The legend, according to some experts, has a bottom of truth. It seems that Count Sforza had some big Nile crocodiles in his ditch. Probably one of these managed to escape and walk around unbothered in the wooded area managed to kill animals and men.
At the convent you can see a source, called "Pope's Source". According to the legend Pope Pio II, seriously ill, would have drank from this source and would have miraculously healed from it.
