Wine windows of Florence

The Buchette del vino are small doors in the walls of some of the grandest houses in Florence. During medieval times when wealthy families brought wine from their vineyards to the city, the Buchette del vino were used to sell glasses or bottles of wine.

During the plague the Buchette del vino became very important as a means to sell wine without any physical contact or in modern terms social distancing. During the recent pandemic Babae restaurant located on Via Santo Spirito used their Buchette del vino for the same purpose.

Matteo Faglia stated an organisation to record and document the Buchette del vino in Florence and surrounding areas. https://buchettedelvino.org/home%2520eng/

When in Florence look out for these tiny windows, you maybe lucky to find some open, try the wine and enjoy wonderful Florence.
